The Stock Tribute Cooling Failure Points

The OEM cooling unit in the EP-chassis Tribute utilizes glass-reinforced nylon end-tanks crimped to an aluminum core with rubber gaskets. Over repeated thermal cycles, cyclic pressure expansion and engine bay heat degrade the polymer, resulting in micro-fractures, stress cracking around the inlet tank, and gasket blowouts. Furthermore, the stock core volume offers limited thermal reserve, leading to rapid heat soak when towing, climbing grades, or idling in high ambient conditions.

The Engineering Solution

Constructed entirely from aircraft-grade AA5052 aluminum with 2 mm heavy-wall sheet metal tanks and 100% precision TIG welds, this performance unit eliminates failure-prone crimped plastic seams. The core utilizes a 3-row vacuum-brazed crossflow configuration measuring 27-5/8 in x 18-1/16 in with cooling rows spaced at 3/8 in intervals. Incorporating high-efficiency louvered fins packed at 14–16 fins per inch (FPI), this design maximizes surface area contact and fluid turbulence to drastically improve heat dissipation efficiency over factory standards. Includes precision-machined 1.25 in inlet and 1.5 in outlet ports, an internal automatic transmission fluid cooler, and an OEM-style solid brass drain petcock.
