The Stock Z4 Cooling Shortcoming

The OEM E89 Z4 radiator utilizes a plastic end tank design crimped to an aluminum core, which is notoriously susceptible to thermal fatigue over time. When subjected to the elevated operating temperatures of the N54 and N55 turbocharged engines, the plastic tanks become brittle, leading to micro-fractures, coolant leaks, and system pressure loss. Furthermore, the restrictive factory core lacks the thermal capacity necessary to effectively dissipate heat during extended heavy driving, resulting in rapid heat soak, elevated oil temperatures, and protective ECU power reduction.

The Engineering Solution

This performance radiator eliminates factory plastic components by utilizing a TIG-welded, full aluminum construction. By upgrading to a high-efficiency aluminum core measuring 26.63 x 13.3 inches, this unit maximizes heat transfer surface area and system fluid capacity. The all-aluminum end tanks are structurally engineered to handle higher system pressures without splitting at the seams. Featuring standard 1.5-inch inlet and outlet ports, it maintains precise OEM routing for a direct drop-in fitment on automatic models.
