The Stock Civic Airflow Bottleneck

The OEM cast aluminum intake manifolds on D-Series engines prioritize low-end drivability and NVH reduction over peak airflow flow. The factory plenum volume is excessively small, and the runners are relatively narrow and rough-cast, which chokes airflow velocity past 5,500 RPM. This creates a severe bottleneck for modified engines, limiting mid-range torque and stifling top-end horsepower gains. Furthermore, the stock 55mm to 56mm throttle body opening becomes a significant restriction when introducing aggressive cam profiles or forced induction, inducing pressure drops that rob the engine of its breathing capacity and throttle response.

The Engineering Solution

This performance intake manifold addresses these OEM airflow limitations through a completely redesigned, high-volume plenum and optimized, short-runner architecture. Manufactured from premium, heat-dissipating cast aluminum, it maximizes the venturi effect to force high-velocity air into the combustion chambers. The manifold features an oversized 66mm throttle body opening—which can be safely port-matched up to 70mm—allowing for massive improvements in intake charge volume. By combining this larger plenum with smoother runner transitions, the manifold delivers profound increases in mid-range torque and aggressive top-end power, effectively eliminating the factory choke point for serious naturally aspirated or turbocharged D-Series builds.
