Replaces the restrictive factory cast iron exhaust manifold to optimize exhaust scavenging, lower engine bay temperatures, and increase horsepower on classic Ford and Mercury Thriftpower inline-six engines.

The Stock Ford & Mercury Exhaust Restriction

The factory cast-iron exhaust manifolds on 1960-1983 Ford and Mercury inline-six models—including the early Bronco, Mustang, and Falcon—are notoriously inefficient. Designed primarily for cheap mass production, the heavy OEM log-style manifolds force exhaust pulses from multiple cylinders to collide, creating severe backpressure. This bottleneck chokes the Thriftpower 2.4L, 2.8L, and 3.3L engines, limiting volumetric efficiency and increasing heat retention near the cylinder head. Over decades of thermal cycling, these original iron components are highly susceptible to warping, cracking at the exhaust ports, and developing persistent leaks at the mating surfaces.

The Engineering Solution

These dual-outlet exhaust headers eliminate the factory flow restriction by utilizing mandrel-bent tubular construction. By separating the exhaust pulses and transitioning gases smoothly from the 1 1/8" x 1 1/4" inlets into a 2.00" outlet, this system dramatically improves exhaust scavenging. This efficiency unlocks proven gains of up to 13 horsepower and 11 lb-ft of torque. The assembly features heavy-duty 7/16-inch CNC-machined head flanges to prevent heat warping and ensure a leak-free seal, paired with 3/8-inch outlet flanges. The robust TIG and MIG welded construction provides long-term structural integrity against vibration. Additionally, the inclusion of two O2 sensor bungs allows for seamless integration of custom EFI conversions or wideband air/fuel ratio monitoring.
