The Stock XC90 Ignition Breakdown

The turbocharged B5254T2 engine generates sustained thermal load under the hood, degrading factory coil-on-plug boots and causing dielectric breakdown of internal epoxy resin. Over time, heat cycles lead to micro-fractures in the OEM winding insulation, resulting in intermittent spark scatter, rough cold idle, and high-load misfire codes (P0300–P0305). Coupled with standard electrode erosion on factory plugs, increased gap resistance places excessive strain on aging coil drivers.

The Engineering Solution

This 5-cylinder service kit pairs five high-output coil-on-plug assemblies with five fine-wire iridium spark plugs. The coils feature heavy-duty internal copper primary and secondary windings encased in high-dielectric epoxy to resist thermal breakdown and voltage leakage. High-temp silicone boots shield against spark blowout. The matched iridium plugs provide superior spark kernel expansion, lower required firing voltage under boost, and exceptional resistance to electrode wear.
