The Stock Ram DS/DJ/D2 Cooling Limitations

The factory OEM radiator on the 4th Generation Ram trucks relies heavily on plastic end tanks crimped to a thin aluminum core. Additionally, the standard core lacks the thermal capacity required for sustained high-load applications. When towing heavy loads on steep grades or operating in hot climates, the stock cooling system struggles to reject heat fast enough, leading to heat soak, reduced ignition timing, and potential engine overheating. Furthermore, many aftermarket replacements utilize cheaper T-3303 aluminum, which is softer and highly prone to corrosion and micro-fractures under high pressure.
