The Stock SL-Class Exhaust Bottleneck

The factory M113K and M113 exhaust manifolds are notoriously restrictive, utilizing a cast log-style design that forces exhaust pulses to collide. This inefficient scavenging creates excessive back pressure and elevated combustion chamber temperatures, fundamentally choking the 5.4L V8. On supercharged applications under heavy load, this bottleneck prevents efficient gas evacuation, causing extreme heat soak, high-RPM power fade, and a muffled exhaust note that fails to reflect true AMG performance.

The Engineering Solution

These mid-length headers maximize exhaust evacuation using wider primary tubes that promote a smooth, high-velocity transition of exhaust pulses into the collector. By significantly reducing back pressure, supercharged M113K engines can realize up to 15 percent gains in horsepower and torque, while naturally aspirated V8s typically see 7 to 10 percent gains. The kit includes downpipes and must be professionally welded to your existing exhaust system. Note that chassis fitment is universal and extremely tight: expect tight routing around the R230 transmission tunnel, steering shaft interference on W211 chassis, subframe clearance issues on W220/C215 models, and restricted clearances in W203 engine bays.
