If you browse any GMT360 platform forum, you’ll quickly learn about the dreaded "turtle shell" (the massive factory intake resonator sitting on top of the 4.2L LL8 Atlas engine). The factory plastic PCV breather hose that connects to this box is notoriously brittle after years of heat cycles. When you pull the hose off the valve cover, do not yank it sideways, or you will snap the plastic nipple clean off. Use your pliers to loosen the clamp, twist the hose gently to break the seal, and pull straight up. Additionally, the IAT/MAF sensor in the factory tube is highly sensitive; treat it like glass.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory 2002-2005 Oldsmobile Bravada 4.2L Intake

  4. Connect the PCV Line: Attach the supplied silicone PCV breather hose from the new intake tube to the valve cover nipple. Secure both ends with the provided clamps using your pliers or 8mm nut driver.
  5. Install the Filter and Lock it Down: Slide the high-flow air filter onto the end of the intake tube. Tighten the filter clamp with your 8mm nut driver. Go back and fully tighten the throttle body coupler clamp and the 10mm mounting bracket bolts. Reconnect the sensor wiring harness.
  6. The 20-Second Rule: Reconnect the negative battery terminal using your 10mm socket. When you start the vehicle for the first time, do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. The ECU needs this uninterrupted idle time to adjust its fuel trims to the massive increase in airflow.
