Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
On the 1st Gen Tacoma 3RZ-FE engine, the vacuum lines connecting to the intake resonator and VSV (Vacuum Switching Valve) are notorious for dry-rotting. They will snap off flush at the brittle plastic nipples if yanked sideways. Gently twist the hoses to break the thermal bond before pulling them straight back. Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  6. Extract the Factory MAF Sensor: Place the upper airbox on a clean bench. Remove the two retaining screws holding the MAF sensor in place using a #2 Phillips screwdriver.   5. Reconnect Battery and Perform Idle Re-Learn: Reconnect the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench. Start the vehicle: do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds upon initial crank.
