Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The VQ40DE platform is notorious for brittle plastic clips and stripped MAF sensor housings. When transferring your factory Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor to the new intake pipe, hand-thread the screws first to avoid cross-threading into the aluminum boss. Also, inspect the rubber O-ring on the sensor body; if it rolls or tears upon insertion, you will end up with unmetered air entering the engine and an immediate P0171/P0174 lean code on your D40 Frontier.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

Disconnect the Battery: On your 2005-2019 Nissan Frontier 4.0L, use a 10mm wrench to loosen and remove the negative (-) battery terminal. Tuck it aside to prevent accidental contact and to reset fuel trims.

Transfer the Factory MAF Sensor: Carefully remove the two screws securing the MAF sensor to the OEM airbox lid using a #2 Phillips screwdriver. Slide the sensor straight out without touching the delicate hot-wire element.
