Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The LX platform community knows all too well that the 2.7L engine doesn’t use a MAF sensor; it uses an IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor plugged directly into the intake tube. After years of under-hood heat cycles, the plastic locking tabs on this sensor, as well as the factory PCV breather hose, become incredibly brittle. Do not muscle the IAT sensor out. Gently twist it counter-clockwise 90 degrees and pull straight out. If you force it, it will shatter, leaving your Charger stranded in the driveway.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 2006-2010 Dodge Charger 2.7L

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by heading to the trunk and disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm socket or wrench. This prevents arcing and keeps the ECU from throwing a Check Engine Light when you unplug sensors.
  2. Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the Intake Air Temperature sensor on the factory plastic intake tube. Depress the locking tab on the harness and pull the connector off. Use your panel popper to pry the plastic harness anchor out of the tube without ripping the wires.
  3. Remove the Breather Hose: Trace the crankcase breather tube from the engine block to the factory airbox. Carefully wiggle it off the airbox nipple. If it feels stuck, use a flathead screwdriver to gently walk the edge of the rubber off the fitting.
  4. Loosen the Throttle Body: Grab your 8mm socket and loosen the band clamp securing the factory ribbed intake tube to the throttle body.
  5. Extract the Factory Airbox: Remove the single 10mm bolt securing the factory airbox to the front core support. Grab the entire airbox assembly and pull firmly straight up to pop it out of its lower rubber mounting grommets. Lift the whole restrictive unit out of the engine bay.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake

  1. Transfer the IAT Sensor: Carefully extract your factory IAT sensor from the old tube. Take the new rubber grommet supplied with your Cold Air Intake, spray it lightly with silicone spray (or soapy water), and seat it into the pre-drilled hole on the new aftermarket intake tube. Gently push the IAT sensor into the lubricated grommet until it seats flush.
  2. Assemble the Heat Shield: Assemble the new metal heat shield using the supplied hardware and your 10mm socket. Drop it into the engine bay, aligning it with the factory mounting points where the old airbox lived, and bolt it down securely.
  3. Mount the Intake Tube & Filter: Slide the provided silicone coupler over your throttle body and loosely install the band clamps using an 8mm socket. Insert the new intake tube into the coupler, then attach your new high-flow cone filter to the end of the tube inside the heat shield. Check your clearances, then lock down all clamps with your 8mm socket.
  4. Reconnect the Plumbing: Push the factory crankcase breather hose onto the welded nipple on your new intake tube. Plug the factory wire harness back into the IAT sensor until you hear it click.
  5. Power Up and Calibrate: Reconnect the negative battery terminal in the trunk using your 10mm wrench. Start the engine. Crucial Step: Do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let the car idle so the ECU can read the new airflow volume and calibrate the idle properly.
