The Wrench Time

Tools You Will Need

• 10mm Socket (with a 12-inch extension)
• 10mm Wrench
• 8mm Nut Driver or socket
• #2 Phillips Screwdriver (JIS preferred)
• Panel Popper (or flathead screwdriver)
• Pliers

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start your 2012-2015 Honda Civic 1.8L install by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and allow the ECU to reset.
2. Unplug the MAF Sensor: Locate the Mass Air Flow sensor on the factory airbox lid. Gently press the release tab and pull the harness off. Unclip the wire harness tie-downs from the airbox using your panel popper so the wire hangs free.
3. Loosen the Throttle Body Clamp: Use an 8mm nut driver to loosen the hose clamp securing the factory rubber intake hose to the throttle body. Squeeze the PCV breather hose clamp with pliers and pull the breather hose free.
4. Remove the Upper Airbox: Unlatch the metal clips holding the upper airbox lid and remove the lid and factory filter completely from the engine bay.
5. Extract the Lower Airbox and Resonator: Use your 10mm socket to remove the bolts holding the lower airbox housing. To get the R18 OEM resonator box out of the fender well, remove the plastic push clips inside the driver-side wheel well using your panel popper. Peel back the wheel well liner, use your 12-inch extension to reach the hidden 10mm bolts, and drop the resonator out through the bottom.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Civic DX LX EX (2012-2015) 1.8L Engine - Black

1. Transfer the MAF Sensor: Using your #2 Phillips screwdriver, carefully remove the two screws holding the MAF sensor to the factory airbox lid. Gently pull the sensor straight out. Transfer it to your new cold air intake pipe. Do not touch the delicate MAF sensor element! Secure it tightly using the provided aftermarket Allen bolts or screws.
2. Install the Throttle Body Coupler: Slide the provided silicone coupler onto the 1.8L engine’s throttle body. Slide two hose clamps loosely over the coupler, then tighten the throttle body side clamp down with your 8mm nut driver.
3. Route the Cold Air Pipe: Carefully feed the new black intake pipe down into the fender cavity where the factory resonator used to sit. Slide the upper end into the throttle body coupler. Do not tighten the pipe clamp just yet to allow for adjustment.
4. Attach the Filter and Breather Hose: Working through the wheel well, push the high-flow air filter onto the bottom of the intake pipe and tighten the clamp with your 8mm nut driver. Reconnect the PCV breather hose to the new pipe’s welded nipple, using your pliers to secure the factory spring clamp.
5. Final Alignment and Startup: Verify the pipe isn’t rubbing against any metal brake lines or the chassis. Tighten down the remaining 8mm hose clamp at the throttle body. Plug the MAF sensor harness back in. Reconnect the negative battery terminal with your 10mm wrench. Start the vehicle, but do not touch the gas pedal for 20 seconds so the ECU can properly adjust to the new cold air volume.
