Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm Deep Socket & Ratchet (for battery terminal and airbox mounting bolts)
  • 8mm Socket or Nut Driver (for hose clamps)
  • Flathead Screwdriver (for gently prying stubborn hoses)
  • Panel Popper (for removing factory push-pins around the air duct)
  • Silicone Spray or Soapy Water (to lubricate the new sensor grommet)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
Ask any veteran on the LX forums and they’ll warn you about this: the 2.7L runs on a Speed Density system. That means there is no MAF sensor, but there IS a highly fragile IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor stuck into the side of the factory intake tube. Do NOT yank it straight out! The sensor has a plastic locking tab. You must gently twist it counter-clockwise to unlock it from the grommet before pulling it out. If you yank it straight up, you will snap the plastic ear clean off.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 2005-2010 Chrysler 300 2.7L

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench or socket. This prevents the ECU from throwing a check engine light when we unplug the intake electronics.
  2. Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the Intake Air Temp sensor on the factory air tube. Press the release tab and unplug the wire harness. Gently twist the sensor counter-clockwise to unlock it, then pull it out. Set it aside safely; you will need it for the new kit.
  3. Detach the PCV Breather Hose: Locate the factory crankcase breather hose routing into the stock airbox. Factory rubber on the LX chassis gets notoriously brittle over time, so use a Flathead screwdriver to carefully walk the hose off the plastic nipple if it’s sticking.
  4. Loosen the Throttle Body Clamp: Grab your 8mm socket and completely loosen the metal band clamp securing the factory intake tube to the engine’s throttle body.
  5. Yank the Factory Silencer Box: Remove the 10mm bolt securing the factory airbox assembly to the core support. Grab the entire airbox and pull straight up with firm pressure to pop it off the lower rubber mounting pins. If the front air scoop is stubborn, use your Panel popper to remove the retaining clips.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake

  1. Mount the New Heat Shield: Drop your new aftermarket heat shield down into the engine bay where the factory box sat. Push the lower mounting posts firmly into the vehicle’s factory rubber grommets. Secure the top mounting tab using the provided hardware and your 10mm socket.
  2. Install the Throttle Body Coupler: Slide the provided silicone coupler directly over the throttle body. Slip two hose clamps loosely over the coupler, but only tighten the clamp on the throttle body side right now using your 8mm nut driver.
  3. Transfer the IAT Sensor: Push the supplied rubber grommet into the pre-drilled hole on your new intake tube. Apply a single drop of Silicone Spray or soapy water to the grommet’s inner lip, then carefully push your factory IAT sensor into place until it sits flush.
  4. Position the Tube & Filter: Slide the new intake tube into the silicone coupler. Attach the high-flow cone filter to the end of the tube inside the heat shield, securing it tightly with an 8mm socket. Route the supplied PCV breather hose from the engine valve cover to the welded fitting on your new intake tube.
  5. Final Tighten & ECU Relearn: Go over the entire assembly and tighten all remaining hose clamps with your 8mm socket. Plug the factory wire harness back into the IAT sensor until it clicks. Reconnect your negative battery terminal. Start the engine, but DO NOT touch the gas pedal for 20 seconds to allow the ECU to properly read the new, unrestricted airflow.
