Tools You Will Need

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Intake

1. Disconnect the Battery: Pop the hood of your 2015-2019 Chevrolet Suburban 5.3L and disconnect the negative battery cable using a 10mm wrench. Isolate the cable terminal away from the battery post to prevent accidental contact.
2. Disconnect the MAF Sensor: Locate the MAF sensor on the OEM intake tube near the air filter box. Slide the red locking tab backward, depress the center release clip, and disconnect the harness. Using a T15 Torx driver, remove the two factory retaining screws, carefully pull the MAF sensor straight out, and set it on a clean microfiber towel.
3. Disconnect PCV Breather Lines: Release the PCV ventilation tubes connected to both sides of the factory intake baffle assembly by depressing the gray quick-release collars and pulling the fittings clear.
4. Loosen OEM Coupler Clamps: Use an 8mm nut driver or flathead screwdriver to loosen the hose clamp securing the intake tube to the throttle body, as well as the clamp securing the tube to the air filter housing.
5. Extract Factory Intake & Airbox: Unclip the factory upper airbox lid and lift the large OEM resonator assembly out of the engine bay. Firmly pull the lower airbox housing straight upward to dislodge it from the rubber mounting grommets in the vehicle inner fender tray.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake

1. Mount the New Heat Shield/Airbox: Position the aftermarket lower heat shield or airbox assembly into the factory mounting location. Ensure the bottom mounting pins firmly seat into the factory rubber grommets, and secure any included bracket hardware using a 10mm socket.
2. Transfer and Seat the MAF Sensor: Insert the factory MAF sensor into the new intake tube bung, ensuring the directional airflow arrow points toward the throttle body. Secure the sensor using the provided hardware and a T15 Torx driver. Tighten until snug; do not overtighten or you will strip the mounting threads.
3. Install Couplers and Intake Tube: Slip the silicone coupler over the 5.3L throttle body and slide the intake tube into place. Tighten the throttle body clamp loosely with an 8mm nut driver to allow for alignment adjustment. Connect the PCV breather lines into the new intake bungs until an audible click is heard.
4. Install Filter & Finalize Clamps: Attach the high-flow air filter onto the intake tube velocity stack within the heat shield. Tighten the filter clamp and all coupler band clamps using an 8mm nut driver, ensuring at least 1/2-inch clearance from radiator hoses and AC lines.
5. Reconnect and Initial ECU Calibration: Reconnect the MAF wiring harness and push the red locking tab forward into the locked position. Reconnect the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench. Start the vehicle and do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds; allow the EcoTec3 L83 ECU to stabilize its idle and adjust airflow parameters to the new intake volume before driving.
