The Stock TSX Air Box Restriction

The factory Acura TSX intake is engineered primarily for cabin quietness (NVH), utilizing a series of resonators and a restrictive plastic housing that inhibits high-velocity airflow. These OEM components are highly susceptible to heat soak—a condition where the plastic air box absorbs ambient engine bay heat, significantly increasing intake air temperatures. Higher IATs lead to decreased oxygen density, which triggers the ECU to retard ignition timing, effectively reducing power output during sustained operation. Furthermore, the stock corrugated rubber bellows create significant internal turbulence, disrupting the laminar flow required for optimal volumetric efficiency in the high-revving K-Series platform.

The Engineering Solution

This induction kit utilizes lightweight, mandrel-bent T-304 aluminum piping to provide a smooth internal surface that minimizes friction and maximizes air velocity. Unlike the stock plastic, the T-304 aluminum construction combined with the included heat shield effectively isolates the intake charge from the radiant heat generated by the 2.4L engine block and radiator. The system features a reusable high-flow conical filter that increases the available surface area for air filtration compared to the flat paper OEM panel. This configuration allows the engine to draw a denser, cooler air charge, resulting in increased explosive output and a more pronounced induction sound under load.
