The Stock TSX Airflow Limitation

The factory CU2 TSX intake system is engineered for maximum acoustic dampening rather than volumetric efficiency. Acura utilized internal baffles, corrugated rubber hosing, and a sealed plastic resonator box to eliminate induction noise. Unfortunately, this creates significant turbulence and flow restriction. Furthermore, the OEM plastic components are susceptible to heat soak in the tightly packed engine bay, leading to elevated Intake Air Temperatures (IAT) during prolonged operation. This heat retention causes the ECU to retard ignition timing to prevent detonation, resulting in a noticeable loss of mid-range torque and sluggish throttle response.

The Engineering Solution

This upgraded intake system eliminates factory bottlenecks by utilizing smooth, mandrel-bent aluminum tubing and a high-flow conical filter. The rigid construction maintains a consistent cross-sectional area, drastically reducing the boundary layer turbulence caused by OEM corrugated hoses. By optimizing the intake path to draw cooler, oxygen-dense air, the system actively combats heat soak and lowers overall IATs. The high-capacity synthetic filter provides superior particulate filtration without the heavy restriction of factory paper elements. This combination of increased volumetric efficiency and cooler air charge allows the K24Z3 to operate with optimal ignition timing, improving both low-end torque delivery and high-rpm horsepower.
