Over time, the plastic crimp joints degrade, leading to catastrophic coolant leaks and sudden pressure loss. Additionally, the limited coolant capacity of the factory single-row core struggles to shed heat efficiently when the 2.2L engine is subjected to sustained loads, high ambient temperatures, or degraded airflow at idle, resulting in localized heat soak and potential cylinder head gasket failure.

The Engineering Solution

This replacement performance radiator mitigates these thermal bottlenecks by upgrading to a 100% T-6061 aluminum construction. Featuring a dense 3-row tube-and-fin core measuring 27.87 by 16.73 inches, it significantly increases both coolant capacity and active surface area for superior heat dissipation. TIG-welded aluminum end tanks completely eliminate the risk of plastic fatigue and seam separation at the 1.26-inch inlet and outlet ports. By improving overall thermal transfer efficiency and airflow dynamics, this unit maintains lower, more stable operating temperatures, safeguarding the engine internals against thermal expansion stress. A new high-pressure radiator cap is included to raise the boiling point of the coolant system for an added thermal safety margin.
