The Stock Cooper Plastic Tank Failure Point
Factory R50 and R53 cooling systems utilize plastic composite end tanks crimped onto a thin single-row aluminum core. Constant thermal cycling, track-level cylinder head temperatures, and high cooling system pressures rapidly degrade the factory PA66 plastic end tanks and gasket seals. Over time, heat soak causes micro-cracking at the tank seams and inlet/outlet necks, leading to sudden coolant loss, warped cylinder heads, and thermal runaway under heavy load.
The Engineering Solution
Engineered as a direct bolt-on replacement, this performance radiator features a 100% TIG-welded, aircraft-grade all-aluminum construction with zero epoxy or crimped plastic joints. The 2-row crossflow racing core measures 580 mm wide by 388 mm high, significantly increasing fluid capacity and heat-dissipating surface area over OEM units. Designed for pressurized expansion-tank systems without an on-core neck, it features 32 mm precision-welded inlet and outlet ports and undergoes 100% pressure-leak testing to withstand extreme cooling circuit demands.
