The Stock JL/JT Cooling Shortcoming

The factory Jeep Wrangler JL and Gladiator JT radiators utilize a plastic end-tank design crimped to a thin aluminum core. Over time, heavy thermal cycling degrades the plastic and rubber gaskets, leading to micro-cracks and inevitable coolant leaks at the seams. Furthermore, the OEM core lacks the fluid capacity and surface area required to effectively dissipate heat under heavy engine loads. When crawling on steep inclines at low speeds, or hauling heavy payloads through challenging terrain, the lack of frontal airflow exacerbates heat soak. This causes the Pentastar or Hurricane engine to pull timing or enter limp mode to prevent catastrophic overheating.

The Engineering Solution

This racing-spec upgrade resolves OEM thermal limitations by integrating a massive 4-row, fully TIG-welded aluminum core. Measuring 22" x 20 5/16" x 2 1/2", the increased core thickness maximizes coolant capacity while expanding the total fin surface area for optimized heat transfer. Eliminating the plastic end tanks in favor of 100% full aluminum construction ensures structural rigidity against chassis flex during aggressive off-roading. Engineered specifically for manual transmission models (excluding transmission/engine oil coolers), this radiator streamlines the cooling loop. The 1 1/2-inch inlet and outlet provide unrestricted fluid dynamics, allowing your water pump to cycle coolant efficiently without cavitation, which stabilizes operating temperatures even in the harshest desert climates.
