The Stock Commander Thermal Bottleneck

The OEM factory radiator in the XK platform uses crimped plastic end tanks bonded to an aluminum single-row core via rubber O-ring gaskets. Repeated thermal cycling, high system pressures, and continuous engine bay heat soak degrade the polymer tanks, causing stress fractures at the inlet neck and separation along the crimp seam. Under high-load conditions such as hill climbs or trail crawling, the thin factory core lacks the fluid volume and surface area required to prevent rapid coolant temperature spikes, leading to transmission overheating and engine degradation.

The Engineering Solution

This drop-in cooling upgrade features 100% TIG-welded AA5052 aircraft-grade aluminum construction, eliminating failure-prone plastic tanks and epoxy seals. Engineered with a high-efficiency 2-row core measuring 1.6 inches in thickness, it substantially increases fluid capacity and thermal dissipation surface area over OEM units. Precision furnace-brazed cooling tubes maximize coolant contact, while louvered multi-louver fins optimize front-to-back airflow across the core. Features a built-in automatic transmission cooler and an OEM-spec brass petcock drain.
