The Stock E84 Cooling Shortcoming
The factory OEM radiator equipped on the N55-powered E84 X1 utilizes plastic end tanks crimped to a thin aluminum core. Over time, constant thermal cycling, pressurized hot coolant, and engine bay heat soak degrade the plastic composition. This inevitably leads to micro-fractures, blown seals at the crimped seams, and sudden coolant loss. Furthermore, the restrictive factory core lacks the thermal mass and fluid capacity required to efficiently dissipate heat during aggressive driving or prolonged idle in hot climates, forcing the ECU to pull timing to mitigate overheating.
The Engineering Solution
This upgraded radiator features a 100% full TIG-welded aluminum construction, completely eliminating the primary failure point of plastic end tanks. The optimized single-row core measures 26.63" x 13.3", maximizing frontal surface area for improved ambient airflow dynamics through the vehicle's grille. With expanded 1.5-inch inlet and outlet diameters, fluid flow restriction is drastically reduced, ensuring faster coolant circulation from the water pump through the engine block. The full metallic finish promotes better radiant heat dissipation, maintaining stable operating temperatures, preventing heat soak, and ensuring consistent power delivery from the turbocharged inline-6.
