The factory hot side intercooler pipe on the 6.7L Cummins features a highly restrictive design directly from the manufacturer. While the OEM piping starts at a 2.75-inch diameter, it contains a deliberate, factory-pressed dent that necks the internal diameter down to an anemic 2.25 inches. This abrupt transition causes severe turbulence, acting as a strict choke point for pressurized air exiting the turbocharger. The resulting aerodynamic drag limits throttle response, increases turbo lag, and unnecessarily elevates exhaust gas temperatures (EGTs) during heavy towing or sustained load operations. Furthermore, the factory rubber boots are prone to degradation and expansion under high boost, leading to pressure leaks and sudden blowout failures under heavy load.
