High-Amp 160A Alternator for 1999-2000 Subaru Impreza (GC/GM/GF)
What it Does: The 160-amp high output alternator replaces the factory charging unit on the 1999-2000 Impreza to stabilize electrical system voltage and supply reliable current for high-draw aftermarket accessories.
The Stock Subaru Impreza Charging Deficit
Factory charging systems on the first-generation GC/GM/GF platform rely on conservative 75 to 85-amp OEM stators. When modified with auxiliary lighting, electric cooling fans, or high-draw sound systems, the factory unit experiences severe voltage sag at idle. Extended thermal cycles in the compact boxer engine bay accelerate diode decay in original equipment, causing headlight flickering, inconsistent ECU voltage signals, and insufficient battery recovery under load.
The Engineering Solution
Engineered for the EJ22 and EJ25 powerplants, this direct-fit alternator generates a continuous 160 amps using heavy-duty stator windings and high-capacity internal rectifiers. It mounts directly into the factory bracket locations, utilizing stock belt alignment and OEM plug provisions with no bracket modifications. Each unit is bench-tested across full RPM operational sweeps to guarantee rock-solid voltage stability at idle and high engine speeds.

Frequently Asked Questions & Fitment Warnings
Does this fit the GC/GM/GF Impreza?
Yes, this is a direct fit for the 1999-2000 Subaru Impreza equipped with the EJ22 or EJ25 engine.
Do I need to upgrade my vehicle wiring?
For high-amperage draw applications, executing a Big-3 wiring upgrade with heavier-gauge charge and ground cables is recommended to prevent circuit bottlenecking and achieve full 160-amp throughput.
The Subaru Performance Caliber
