High-Amperage 220A Alternator for 2016-2018 Nissan Maxima (A36)
What it Does: The High Output 220 Amp Alternator replaces the factory charging unit on the 2016-2018 Maxima to deliver stable electrical current under heavy electrical loads and prevent voltage drop across onboard systems.
The Stock Nissan Maxima Charging Bottleneck
The OEM charging system on the A36 Maxima relies on a factory alternator engineered strictly for base electrical demands. When aftermarket electronics—such as multi-amplifier audio setups, secondary cooling fans, or auxiliary electronics—are added, the stock unit suffers from stator saturation, thermal throttling, and severe voltage sag below 12.5V at idle. Continuous high draw overheats the factory internal diodes and causes premature voltage regulator failure, leading to erratic sensor readouts, dimming headlights, and battery starvation.
The Engineering Solution
Engineered with precision heavy-duty copper windings and high-efficiency rectifiers, this 220-amp direct-replacement unit maintains solid 14.4V system charging even at low engine speeds across the entire VQ35DE operating range. The precision-balanced rotor and oversized heat sinks dissipate excessive heat to mitigate thermal degradation, while heavy-gauge internal avalanche diodes absorb transient ripple voltage. It bolts directly to the factory engine mounting brackets and retains compatibility with OEM harness routing without bracket modification.

Frequently Asked Questions & Fitment Warnings
Does this fit the A36 Maxima?
Yes, this is a direct fit for the 2016-2018 Nissan Maxima equipped with the VQ35DE engine.
Do I need to upgrade my main charging wire?
Upgrading to a dedicated 4-gauge or 1/0-gauge fused power lead (Big 3 upgrade) is highly recommended to safely support full 220-amp charging current.
The Nissan Performance Caliber
