High-Amp 250A Alternator for 2007-2012 GMC Canyon (GMT355)
What it Does: The 250-amp high-output alternator replaces the factory 125-amp unit on the 2007-2012 GMC Canyon to eliminate severe voltage sag and supply stable charging current for high-draw electrical equipment.
The Stock GMC Canyon Charging Limitations
Factory charging systems on the first-generation GMT355 platform feature standard 125-amp Valeo units (such as 15884348 and TG12S047) calibrated strictly for baseline factory electronics. When users install high-draw accessories—including recovery winches, auxiliary LED light bars, aftermarket audio systems, or snow plow hydraulics—the OEM alternator operates at maximum capacity. This chronic over-amperage causes severe diode bridge heat soak, rotor winding degradation, and idle voltage dropping below 12.5V, which starves the PCM and leads to premature battery failure.
The Engineering Solution
Engineered for high-demand duty cycles, this 250-amp heavy-duty charging unit provides over double the output capacity of the stock unit. It features high-temperature copper stator windings, precision-balanced internal rotors, and heavy-duty rectifiers equipped with high-amp avalanche diodes that dissipate electrical and thermal spikes. Fabricated to OEM mounting specs for the Atlas LLV 2.9L and LLR 3.7L engine blocks, it delivers substantial current generation right off idle while protecting the primary vehicle harness from excessive voltage drop.

Frequently Asked Questions & Fitment Warnings
Does this fit the GMT355 Canyon?
Yes, this is a direct fit for the 2007-2012 GMC Canyon equipped with the LLV 2.9L or LLR 3.7L engines. Does not fit models equipped with the 5.3L LH8/LH9 V8 engine.
Do I need to upgrade the main charging wire?
Yes, installing a high-amp "Big 3" 0-gauge charge cable directly from the alternator output stud to the battery positive terminal is required to safely transfer 250 amps without causing harness resistance.
The GMC Workhorse Standard
Whether navigating severe off-road trails with a recovery winch or running commercial job site accessories, this high-output charging unit keeps your GMT355 Canyon at an optimal 14.4 volts under sustained electrical loads.
