The factory air cleaner assemblies on 1993-2007 Touring models were engineered primarily for noise suppression and emissions compliance rather than volumetric efficiency. These stock units utilize high-impedance paper filters housed within narrow-venturi plastic enclosures that create significant air turbulence and parasitic drag. Over time, the OEM plastic backplates are prone to thermal warping from engine heat soak, which can compromise the seal at the throttle body or carburetor. This bottleneck restricts the Evolution and Twin Cam engines from reaching their full torque potential, particularly during high-load cruising or steep grades where air demand is highest.

The Engineering Solution

This high-performance intake system features a CNC-machined aluminum base and faceplate, providing a rigid, heat-stable platform that eliminates the flex associated with stock plastic components. The filter media is constructed from multi-layer melt-blown fabric reinforced with an aluminum mesh, significantly increasing the surface area for filtration while reducing vacuum pressure across the intake tract. By streamlining airflow into the Delphi EFI or CV Carburetor, this kit improves throttle response and combustion efficiency.
