Difficulty: 2/10 - A classic GMT800 driveway mod. No specialty tools required, but dealing with 20-year-old NBS (New Body Style) plastics requires patience and a gentle hand.

10mm socket and ratchet (for battery and airbox tray)
8mm nut driver or flathead screwdriver (for hose clamps)
T20 Torx bit (for factory MAF sensor screws)
Panel popper (for releasing factory wire harness clips)
5/32 Allen key (for aftermarket button-head hardware)

Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The factory PCV breather hose on these LS-based engines is notoriously brittle after thousands of heat cycles. When pulling the bulky factory Vortec resonator box off the throttle body, DO NOT just yank it. Carefully twist and pull the PCV line to avoid snapping the plastic nipple on the passenger valve cover. Additionally, when handling the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor, absolutely do not touch the delicate wires inside. Now is the perfect time to blast it with dedicated MAF cleaner to cure the infamous GMT800 idle surge before bolting it to your new intake.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights.
Unplug the Sensors: On your 2003-2006 Cadillac Chevrolet GMC Escalade Silverado Sierra Yukon 5.3L 6.0L, locate the MAF sensor mounted inline with the factory air tube. Slide the gray locking tab back, press the clip, and gently unplug the wire harness. Use a panel popper to free the plastic harness anchor from the factory tube.
Remove the PCV Breather Hose: Locate the hard plastic PCV line connecting the passenger-side valve cover to the factory intake resonator. Gently disconnect it from the resonator nipple to prevent cracking.
Loosen the Hose Clamps: Grab your 8mm nut driver or flathead screwdriver and loosen the large factory hose clamps at the throttle body and at the MAF sensor housing.
Extract the Factory Box: Lift the massive factory Vortec resonator assembly up and off the throttle body. Next, grab the lower factory airbox and pull straight up—it is simply pressed into rubber grommets on the fender tray. If your aftermarket kit requires tray removal, unbolt it using your 10mm socket.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Silverado Sierra Escalade Yukon (2003–2006) 5.3L 6.0L Engines

Assemble the Heat Shield: Construct the new aftermarket heat shield using the supplied hardware and your 5/32 Allen key. Mount it into the engine bay where the factory airbox sat, securing it to the factory mounting points with a 10mm socket.
Transfer the MAF Sensor: Carefully unscrew the MAF sensor from the factory housing using a T20 Torx bit (or remove the entire inline housing, depending on your kit design). CRITICAL STEP: Install the MAF into your new intake system ensuring the directional arrow printed on the sensor points TOWARD the throttle body. If installed backward, the truck will barely run.
Install the Couplers and Tube: Slide the provided silicone couplers onto the throttle body and onto the new intake tube. Loosely slip the hose clamps over the couplers. Slide the tube into place and position it so it does not rub against the radiator hose or engine cover. Tighten all clamps securely with your 8mm nut driver.
Connect the PCV and Filter: Attach the supplied aftermarket PCV silicone hose from the valve cover to the welded nipple on the new intake tube. Slide the high-flow air filter onto the end of the tube inside the heat shield and lock it down tight with an 8mm nut driver.
Reconnect and Relearn: Plug the factory MAF sensor harness back into the sensor until it clicks, and push the gray lock forward. Reconnect the negative battery terminal with your 10mm wrench. Start the vehicle. Do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let the truck idle so the ECU can calibrate to the massive increase in airflow.
