Tools You Will Need

• 10mm deep socket and ratchet (for battery terminals and airbox mounting bolts)
• 8mm nut driver or socket (for factory and aftermarket hose clamps)
• Flathead screwdriver or panel popper (for prying stubborn plastic harness clips)
• Silicone spray lubricant (to release factory rubber grommets)

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal on your 2012-2018 Jeep Wrangler 3.6L using a 10mm wrench or 10mm socket. This prevents accidental shorts and clears the ECU memory to prepare for the new airflow metrics.
2. Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the IAT sensor on the factory intake tube. Slide the red locking tab back, press the release button, and gently pull the wiring harness off. Tuck the harness safely out of the way.
3. Disconnect the CCV Hose: Pull the Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) hose off the factory air intake tube. If it’s stubborn, carefully walk it off with your hands rather than using pliers, which can crack the plastic fitting.
4. Loosen the Hose Clamps: Use your 8mm nut driver or 8mm socket to loosen the factory hose clamps at the throttle body and at the factory airbox lid.
5. Remove the Factory Airbox: Remove the two 10mm bolts securing the factory airbox to the fender bracket. Grab the lower airbox housing and pull straight up firmly. It is held in by three rubber push-grommets that feel glued in. A quick shot of silicone spray at the base helps pop them loose.
6. Extract the IAT Sensor: With the factory tube on your workbench, carefully twist the IAT sensor 90 degrees counter-clockwise and pull it straight out. Set it somewhere safe where it won’t get crushed.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Jeep Wrangler JK (2012-2018) 3.6L

1. Assemble and Mount the Heat Shield: Assemble your new aftermarket heat shield or lower airbox following the manufacturer’s hardware layout. Push the new assembly down into the factory rubber fender grommets and secure it using the provided hardware and your 10mm socket.
2. Install the Silicone Couplers: Slide the new silicone coupler over your Pentastar’s throttle body. Slip the provided hose clamps loosely over the coupler. Do not tighten them yet.
3. Transfer the IAT Sensor: Install the supplied rubber grommet into the pre-drilled hole on your new intake tube. Apply a tiny amount of silicone spray lubricant to the factory IAT sensor O-ring. Push it gently into the new grommet until fully seated. Do not force it.
4. Drop in the Intake Tube: Slide the new intake tube into the throttle body coupler and into the new air filter assembly. Adjust the angles so there is no binding or rubbing against the JK’s alternator or coolant lines. Once aligned, lock it down by tightening all hose clamps with your 8mm nut driver.
5. Reconnect the Lines: Push the CCV hose onto the new intake tube fitting. Plug the factory wiring harness back into the IAT sensor and push the red locking tab down to secure it.
6. The Relearn Startup: Reconnect your negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench. Start the engine, but do not touch the gas pedal for 20 seconds. Let the vehicle idle so the ECU can calibrate to the increased airflow of the new Cold Air Intake. Check for any whistling sounds indicating a vacuum leak.
