Tools You Will Need

  • Panel Popper Tool: For removing the factory wiring harness clips from the plastic housing.
  • Flathead Screwdriver: For prying the locking tabs on the wiring harness.
  • Silicone Spray Lube or Soapy Water: Crucial for safely seating the factory sensor into the new aftermarket grommet.
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The 3.8L "Minivan Motor" relies on an Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor located right in the factory intake tube. This plastic sensor has been baking under the hood for over a decade. It is extremely brittle. Do NOT yank it out. You must gently unlock the tab, twist it counter-clockwise, and pull straight out. Snapping the plastic cage off the tip means you are making a trip to the parts store before your Jeep runs again.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal on your 2007-2011 Jeep Wrangler 3.8L using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and reset the ECU fuel trims.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake

  4. Seat the Intake Tube and Filter: Guide the new Cold Air Intake tube into the heat shield, then slide the opposite end into the throttle body coupler. Slide your high-flow air filter onto the end of the tube inside the heat shield. Tighten all remaining hose clamps with your 8mm socket.
  5. Reconnect Hoses and Wiring: Push the factory PCV breather hose onto the nipple of the new intake tube. Click the wiring harness back into the IAT sensor and engage the red locking tab.
  6. ECU Relearn Protocol: Reconnect your negative battery terminal. Turn the ignition key to the ON position (do not crank the engine) for 10 seconds. Start the Jeep, but do not touch the gas pedal for 20 seconds. The ECU needs this idle time to read the new airflow volume and adjust the mapping to prevent a sluggish throttle response.
