The Stock Super Duty Air Path Limitations

The factory intake system on the 2017-2019 6.7L Powerstroke is engineered primarily for NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) reduction rather than maximum flow. The OEM plastic ducting features accordion-style bellows that create internal air turbulence, disrupting the laminar flow required for efficient turbocharger operation. Furthermore, the stock pleated paper filter is prone to rapid loading under heavy-duty towing conditions, which increases vacuum restriction and leads to higher Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGTs). This restriction forces the GT37 variable geometry turbocharger to work harder to meet boost targets, increasing mechanical stress and heat soak.

The Engineering Solution

This intake system utilizes a precision-engineered 4-inch diameter aluminum tube, CNC mandrel-bent to maintain a constant cross-sectional area. By removing the factory bottlenecks, the Scorpion V8 can pull a higher volume of air with less resistance. The aluminum construction is finished with a thermal-resistant coating to mitigate heat transfer from the engine bay into the intake charge. The kit includes a high-flow, micro-cotton washable filter that provides superior surface area for filtration without the pressure drop associated with paper elements. This results in significantly improved throttle response, faster turbo spool-up, and better efficiency during high-load towing or race-day applications.
