The Stock S4, S5 Airflow Deficit

The factory B9 intake system is engineered primarily for cabin comfort and sound suppression, utilizing a closed-box design and a thick pleated paper filter that significantly restricts CFM at high RPMs. A major failure point in the OEM setup is the corrugated plastic intake hose, which creates internal air turbulence and vortices, disrupting the laminar flow required for efficient turbo spool. Additionally, the stock plastic components are highly susceptible to heat soak from the EA839’s top-mounted turbocharger, leading to elevated intake air temperatures (IATs) that force the ECU to retard timing, ultimately robbing the engine of its factory-rated horsepower.

The Engineering Solution

This kit addresses these bottlenecks by utilizing a 3.5-inch large-diameter architecture to minimize vacuum and maximize mass airflow. The system features a black powder-coated aluminum heat shield that effectively isolates the intake charge from ambient engine bay heat. By replacing the stock accordion-style hose with a smooth-bore, multi-ply reinforced silicone inlet pipe, internal drag is eliminated, facilitating a more direct path to the compressor housing. The included dry-media cone filter provides increased surface area for filtration without the risk of MAF sensor contamination associated with oiled filters.
