High-Flow T-304 Stainless Catback Exhaust for 1989-1997 Mazda MX-5 Miata (NA / B-Series)

What It Does: Replaces the restrictive factory exhaust system from the catalytic converter back with mandrel-bent stainless steel piping to optimize exhaust gas velocity and reduce parasitic power loss.

The Stock MX-5 Miata Weakness

The original equipment manufacturer (OEM) exhaust on the NA-generation Miata was engineered for maximum sound suppression at the expense of flow. Constructed from mild steel, these factory units are highly susceptible to internal corrosion and external rust after decades of heat cycling. Mechanically, the stock system utilizes crush-bent piping which creates restrictive bottlenecks at every radius. Furthermore, the heavy, baffled muffler design generates significant backpressure, which chokes the high-revving B6ZE and BP-ZE engines, limiting their ability to efficiently scavenge exhaust gases during high-RPM operation.

The Engineering Solution

This Manzo N1-style catback system is engineered to resolve flow deficiencies through the use of 2.25-inch T-304 stainless steel piping. Unlike the stock unit, this system utilizes mandrel-bending techniques to maintain a constant internal diameter throughout the entire length, significantly reducing turbulence and increasing laminar flow. The straight-through muffler design minimizes backpressure, facilitating a measured increase of 5-15 horsepower depending on your current intake and timing setup. The assembly features a 4.0-inch tip with a removable silencer, allowing for decibel adjustment without sacrificing the performance gains of the high-flow canister. Every kit includes necessary gaskets and hardware to mate directly to the factory catalytic converter flange.

The Mazda Standard

Engineered for the JDM enthusiast, this system enhances the naturally aspirated character of the B-series engine. By reducing total vehicle weight and improving the exhaust note, this modification aligns with the 'Jinba Ittai' philosophy, providing the throttle responsiveness and acoustic feedback necessary for spirited driving and track applications.
