Direct-Fit Remanufactured Alternator for 1975-1976 Volkswagen Scirocco (Typ 53)
What it Does: The replacement Bosch-style alternator restores stable 12-volt charging output on the 1975-1976 Volkswagen Scirocco to eliminate accessory voltage drop and prevent battery discharge at idle.
The Stock Volkswagen Scirocco Charging System Failure
Factory charging systems on the first-generation Typ 53 Scirocco suffer from aged internal components after decades of heat cycling. Worn carbon brushes, grooved slip rings, and degraded internal voltage regulators lead to severe charging drops below the critical 13.5V threshold. Under thermal stress, degraded diode rectifiers fail to convert AC to DC efficiently, causing headlight flickering, ignition misfires under load, and parasitic battery drain that leaves early water-cooled Volkswagens stranded.
The Engineering Solution
This OE-spec remanufactured unit restores baseline electrical integrity using heavy-gauge copper stator windings, precision-balanced rotors, and premium sealed bearings designed to handle high-RPM belt loads. Equipped with a fresh internal solid-state voltage regulator, it delivers stable 13.5V to 14.5V output straight to the factory harness. Direct-fit housing architecture matches factory bracketry and pulley alignment, replacing worn units marked by OEM reference numbers 0120489582 and 0120489746 with zero core conversion required.

Frequently Asked Questions & Fitment Warnings
Does this fit the Typ 53 Scirocco?
Yes, this is a direct bolt-on fit for the 1975-1976 Volkswagen Scirocco Typ 53 equipped with the EA827 1.5L or 1.6L inline-four engine.
Do I need to charge my battery before installing this alternator?
Yes, always fully charge the battery prior to installation, as pulling high amperage through a new alternator to charge a dead battery can overheat the internal diodes.
The Volkswagen Precision Caliber
