The Stock M177 Induction Weakness

The factory induction system in the C63 and GLC63 is engineered primarily for noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) suppression rather than raw volumetric efficiency. The OEM airboxes utilize dense paper filtration media and baffled internal chambers that create significant air resistance. Under high-load scenarios, the corrugated plastic intake hoses cause internal turbulence, disrupting laminar flow to the compressor wheels. Furthermore, these plastic components are highly susceptible to heat soak in the cramped 4.0L V8 engine bay, leading the ECU to pull ignition timing as intake temperatures rise, which results in a measurable loss of mid-range torque and top-end horsepower.

The Engineering Solution

The Kyostar induction kit solves these bottlenecks by utilizing mandrel-bent 3-inch aluminum tubing, which ensures a smooth, high-velocity air path from the filter to the turbo inlets. Aluminum provides superior durability and heat dissipation compared to factory plastics. The system features two large-capacity, dry pleated filters that are washable and reusable, providing increased surface area for maximum CFM without the risk of MAF sensor contamination common with oiled filters. The included black powder-coated heat shields isolate the intake charge from the radiant heat of the M177 engine block.
