Installation Guide: Cold Air Intake for Honda Accord (2004-2007)
Installation Guide: Cold Air Intake for Honda Accord (2004-2007)
Upgrade your 2.4L Honda Accord with a Cold Air Intake system to improve throttle response and engine sound. This guide covers the installation for Part Number ZC1CAI014301.
Vehicle Fitment
- Make/Model: Honda Accord (2004-2007)
- Engine: L4-2.4L (SULEV Models Only)
- Estimated Time: 60-90 Minutes
1. Tools Needed
Before beginning, ensure you have the following tools organized:
- Flat Blade Screwdriver
- Phillips Screwdriver
- Ratchet & Extension
- Sockets: 13mm, 10mm, 5.5mm
- Wrenches: 10mm standard, 2.5mm Allen, 4mm Allen
⚠️ SAFETY WARNING:
Coolant Hazard: This installation involves removing coolant lines at the throttle body. Ensure the engine is completely cool before starting to avoid burns or pressurized coolant spray.
Battery: You will be disconnecting the battery. Make sure you have your radio anti-theft code written down, as your preset settings will be erased.

2. Removing the Stock Intake
- Disconnect Battery: Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove Sensor: Depress the locking tab to unplug the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor harness. Remove the clips securing the wire harness to the stock airbox.
-
Disconnect Vent Lines:
- Depress the spring clamp to remove the crankcase vent line from the vent chamber on the intake tube.
- Disconnect the vent hose from the stock intake tube.
- Remove Tube: Loosen the hose clamp at the throttle body and unclip the throttle position sensor harness. Pull firmly to remove the stock intake tube from the airbox and vehicle.
- Remove Airbox: Remove the two bolts securing the airbox. Unclip the wiring harness from the bottom of the box and lift the airbox out. (Note: Do not discard stock parts).
- Coolant Bypass (Critical Step): Locate the stock coolant hose connecting the throttle body to the thermostat housing. Depress the spring clamps and remove this hose assembly entirely. Catch any dripping coolant with a rag.
3. Pre-Assembly & Preparation
Coolant Hose Replacement
Install the supplied replacement coolant hose between the thermostat housing and the throttle body. Secure it using the provided clamps. Top off coolant if necessary.
Bracket Installation
- Tube Bracket (#06498): Install this onto the thermostat housing using the provided hardware.
- Frame Bracket (#06497): Remove the bolt securing the ground strap to the frame rail. Install the angled "L" bracket here, reusing the bolt to secure both the bracket and the ground strap.
Intake Tube Assembly
- MAF Sensor: Remove the sensor from the stock airbox and install it into the new aluminum intake tube using the provided hardware.
-
Vent Chamber Modification:
- Locate the supplied white plastic hose mender.
- Crucial: Cut two barbs off the hose mender (as referenced in the manual diagram).
- Insert the mender into the stock crankcase vent chamber. Secure with the stock clamp.
- Attach the provided silicone hose to the other end.
4. Final Installation
- Couplers: Install the silicone hose (#08440) onto the throttle body and secure with a clamp.
- Heat Shield: Install the edge trim onto the heat shield, attach bracket #06499, and mount the heat shield assembly into the engine bay.
- Install Tube: Insert the intake tube into the throttle body coupler. Align it with the mounting bracket installed earlier. Tighten all clamps and hardware.
-
Reconnect Hoses:
- Install the crankcase chamber assembly connecting the intake tube to the valve cover.
- Install the stock vent hose onto the intake tube nipple.
- Filter & Sensor: Install the air filter onto the end of the intake tube inside the heat shield. Reconnect the MAF sensor harness.
- Power: Reconnect the negative battery cable.
5. Testing & Verification
- Double Check: Ensure all clamps are tight and the tube is not rubbing against any metal surfaces.
- CARB Sticker: If you are in California or a state requiring emissions testing, apply the C.A.R.B. exemption sticker in a visible location under the hood.
- Start Engine: Start the car in Neutral/Park. Listen for air leaks (hissing) or odd rattles. If found, tighten connections.
- Drive: Take a test drive to ensure smooth throttle response. Retighten clamps after the first drive if necessary.
Disclaimer: Failure to follow installation instructions or not using provided hardware may damage the intake tube, throttle body, and engine. Professional installation is recommended if you are unfamiliar with engine components.
