Feel that sluggishness in your Charger’s 2.7L V6, especially when you put your foot down? It’s not just in your head – the factory intake system is designed for quiet operation, not peak performance, leaving power on the table.

Performance Cold Air Intake Kit for Dodge Charger Base / SE (2.7L V6)

The stock air box on your 2.7L V6 Dodge Charger is a significant bottleneck. Designed to be compact and dampen intake noise, it chokes off airflow to the engine, especially at higher RPMs. This restriction prevents your engine from breathing freely, limiting its ability to produce power and respond quickly to throttle input.

Our Cold Air Intake Kit addresses this directly. By replacing the restrictive factory air box with a larger, free-flowing conical air filter and a precisely engineered T-304 aluminum intake pipe, we’re allowing your 2.7L V6 to draw in a significantly increased volume of colder, denser air. This optimal air charge means a more efficient combustion cycle, translating to noticeable gains in horsepower, torque, and throttle responsiveness across the RPM range.

Why You Need This Upgrade

  • Enhanced Throttle Response: Experience a more immediate and satisfying reaction when you step on the gas, making daily driving more engaging and spirited.
  • Increased Horsepower & Torque: By optimizing airflow and delivering colder air, this kit directly contributes to a bump in power, typically seeing gains of 5-7% HP and 6-8% TQ on the dyno.
  • Improved Fuel Efficiency: A more efficient engine that’s breathing better often translates to better gas mileage, especially during cruising, as less effort is required for the same output.
  • Aggressive Engine Note: You’ll notice a deeper, more satisfying growl from your engine under acceleration, giving your Charger a sportier auditory presence without being overbearing.
  • Long-Term Savings & Easy Maintenance: The included high-quality, washable, and reusable air filter eliminates the need for frequent disposable filter replacements, saving you money and simplifying upkeep.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 2/10 - Straightforward bolt-on, but requires patience dealing with brittle, heat-cycled 15-year-old factory plastics.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm Socket & Ratchet (for battery terminal, factory airbox bolts, and heat shield)
  • 10mm Wrench (for tight clearance bolts if needed)
  • 8mm Socket or Flathead Screwdriver (for hose clamps)
  • Panel Popper / Trim Removal Tool (for wiring harness clips)
  • Silicone Spray Lubricant (critical for safe sensor transfer)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
On the LX platform, the factory Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is wedged into a rubber grommet on the OEM intake tube. After years of under-hood heat, that grommet turns into concrete. If you blindly yank the sensor, you will snap the fragile plastic thermistor tip clean off, throwing an immediate check engine light and causing your 2.7L to idle like garbage. Spray a quick blast of silicone lubricant at the base of the sensor, gently twist it 90 degrees back and forth to break the seal, and pull straight out.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench on your 2006-2010 Dodge Charger 2.7L to prevent accidental shorts and to reset the ECU’s fuel trims.
  2. Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the IAT sensor on the factory intake tube. Depress the locking tab and unplug the electrical harness. If the harness is clipped to the plastic tube, use your panel popper to pry the retaining clip free without snapping it.
  3. Disconnect the PCV Breather: Pull the factory PCV breather hose off the stock airbox resonator. If it is stuck, carefully pry the edge with a flathead screwdriver to break the seal.
  4. Loosen the Throttle Body: Grab your 8mm socket and loosen the factory hose clamp securing the intake tube to the throttle body.
  5. Extract the Factory Airbox: Remove the mounting bolt holding the bottom of the airbox to the core support using a 10mm socket. Lift the entire OEM intake assembly straight up and out of the engine bay. Once on the bench, carefully extract the factory IAT sensor using the twist-and-pull method described in the Pro Tip.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake

  1. Assemble the Heat Shield: Build the aftermarket heat shield and mount it into the factory airbox location using the provided hardware and your 10mm socket.
  2. Install the Silicone Coupler: Slide the new silicone step-down coupler over the throttle body. Slide two clamps over it, but leave them loose. Tighten the throttle body side slightly with your 8mm socket so it doesn’t slip off while you maneuver the pipe.
  3. Transfer the IAT Sensor: Press the supplied rubber grommet into the pre-drilled hole on your new intake tube. Apply a tiny drop of silicone spray to the factory IAT sensor and gently push it firmly into the new grommet. Ensure it is seated flush and secure.
  4. Mount the Intake Tube: Slide the new tube into the throttle body coupler, then attach the high-flow air filter to the other end. Reconnect the factory PCV breather hose to the nipple on the new tube. Tighten all hose clamps securely with your 8mm socket.
  5. Reconnect and Relearn: Plug the electrical harness back into the IAT sensor. Reconnect your negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench. Start the engine, but DO NOT touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let the vehicle idle so the ECU can adapt to the new airflow parameters without throwing a code.
