Maximize Induction Flow for Your B15 Sentra SR20DE
Who It’s For: Designed specifically for 2000-2001 Nissan Sentra owners running the legendary SR20DE engine.
The Problem: The factory intake on the SR20DE is choked by a restrictive, baffled plastic airbox designed for noise suppression over performance. This creates significant turbulence and limits air volume, which prevents the engine from reaching its true volumetric efficiency during spirited driving.
The Solution: We engineered this intake system to bypass the factory bottlenecks. By utilizing mandrel-bent T6061 aluminum piping and a high-flow stainless steel mesh filter, we’ve created a direct, high-velocity path for oxygen to reach the throttle body, allowing the SR20DE to breathe freely and react faster to driver input.
Why This is the Ultimate Upgrade
- Enhanced Induction Sound & Velocity: The smooth-bore aluminum piping eliminates the turbulence found in corrugated rubber factory hoses, providing a crisper throttle response and a deep, aggressive engine note under load.
- Lifetime Filtration: Features a washable and reusable stainless steel fine mesh filter. Unlike traditional cotton gauze, this mesh is designed for maximum durability and consistent flow without the need for messy re-oiling.
- Complete Bolt-On Kit: This isn’t a "universal" hack-job. The kit includes high-pressure silicone reducers, heavy-duty clamps, and all necessary mounting hardware to ensure a secure fitment in the B15 engine bay.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 60-90 Minutes
- Difficulty: 4.5/10 - Removing the factory lower resonator requires wheel removal and fender well access, but the actual assembly is basic bolt-on wrenching.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm and 12mm sockets with a 6-inch extension and 3/8-inch drive ratchet
- 8mm nut driver or deep socket (for aftermarket hose clamps)
- #2 Phillips and Flathead screwdrivers
- Panel popper tool (for fender liner clips)
- Floor jack and jack stands
The 2000-2001 Nissan Sentra 2.0L (B15 chassis with the "Roller Rocker" SR20DE engine) has two major community headaches. First, the factory lower air resonator is massive and trapped inside the driver-side fender well. Don’t try to force it out from the top engine bay—you will shatter the brittle 20-year-old plastics or tear wiring. Jack the car up and peel back the fender liner. Second, the SR20 MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor is notoriously fragile. Treat it like glass; dropping it or roughhousing the hot-wire element is an instant $150 mistake.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start your 2000-2001 Nissan Sentra 2.0L install by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and electrical shorts.
- Unplug the MAF Sensor: Carefully depress the plastic tab on the MAF sensor wiring harness and pull straight back. If the 20-year-old plastic is stubborn, gently assist the tab with a small flathead screwdriver.
- Remove the Upper Airbox and Hose: Loosen the factory hose clamp at the throttle body using a #2 Phillips screwdriver or 10mm socket. Unbolt the upper airbox housing using your 10mm socket and carefully lift the upper assembly (with the MAF still attached) out of the engine bay.
- Access the Fender Well: Securely raise the driver-side front of the vehicle using a floor jack and jack stands. Remove the front driver-side wheel. Use your panel popper tool to remove the 4 to 5 plastic push-clips holding the front splash guard/fender liner in place. Peel the liner back to expose the lower resonator box.
- Extract the Lower Resonator: Locate the mounting bolts securing the lower resonator to the chassis. Remove them using a combination of 10mm and 12mm sockets on a 6-inch extension. Wiggle the bulky resonator out through the wheel well cavity.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Nissan Sentra (2000-2001) 2.0L Engine
- Transfer the MAF Sensor: Place your factory upper airbox on a clean workbench. Unscrew the MAF sensor from the factory housing (typically requiring a #2 Phillips screwdriver). Carefully transfer the sensor into the new aftermarket intake tube. Secure it using the supplied hardware, being careful not to over-torque and crack the sensor mounting flange.
- Mount the Throttle Body Coupler: Slide the provided silicone step-coupler onto the throttle body. Slide two hose clamps loosely over the coupler. Tighten the throttle body side clamp until snug using an 8mm nut driver or 8mm socket.
- Route the Cold Air Pipe: Gently feed the main intake pipe down through the factory hole in the engine bay into the fender well area. Slide the top end of the pipe into the throttle body silicone coupler.
- Secure the Intake and Filter: Align the welded mounting bracket on the intake pipe with the factory threaded hole on the chassis (usually where the old airbox mounted). Secure it with a 10mm socket. Moving to the wheel well, slide the new high-flow air filter onto the bottom of the intake pipe and tighten the filter clamp firmly with your 8mm socket.
- Final Connections and ECU Relearn: Reconnect the MAF sensor wiring harness until it clicks. Go back over every hose clamp with your 8mm socket to ensure there are no vacuum leaks. Reinstall your fender liner clips with the panel popper, mount your wheel, and lower the car. Reconnect the negative battery terminal with a 10mm wrench. On the first startup, do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds; allow the ECU to idle and adjust to the new volume of incoming air.
