Performance Cold Air Intake Induction Kit for 2008–2014 Subaru Impreza WRX/STi 2.5L Turbo – Enhanced Boost & Induction Efficiency
Unlock your Impreza’s true potential and performance by eliminating the bottlenecks of the factory induction system. Known for its rally-bred heritage and the iconic rumble of the EJ25, your WRX or STi deserves an intake that matches its high-performance DNA. This high-flow system is engineered to transform how your 2.5L turbo engine breathes, replacing the restrictive stock air box with a streamlined path for oxygen-rich air. By drawing in a cooler, denser charge, this system optimizes combustion efficiency, providing your Subaru with a noticeable increase in horsepower and a much sharper response whenever you engage the throttle.
Experience a more dynamic drive as the turbocharger gains the airflow it needs to thrive under load. Whether you are hitting the apex on a backroad or merging onto the highway, this upgrade ensures the power is available the moment you need it. The reduced air resistance not only improves mid-range torque by up to 10% but also introduces a deeper, more aggressive induction note that perfectly complements the signature Subaru exhaust tone.

Installation Tip
Always unplug the car battery's NEGATIVE GROUND CABLE before installing this product. To ensure your Subaru’s ECU accurately adjusts to the increased airflow, leave it disconnected for at least 60 seconds during the process. This allows the system to recalibrate to the new induction parameters for immediate performance gains. Always perform the installation on a completely cool engine.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 3/10 - A straightforward bolt-on, but requires extreme care with the sensitive EJ-series MAF sensor and aging factory plastics.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm and 12mm sockets with a 6-inch extension and 3/8" ratchet
- #2 Phillips screwdriver (JIS preferred for Subaru factory screws)
- Panel popper tool (or a flathead screwdriver wrapped in tape)
- 5/16" nut driver or flathead for the hose clamps
- Needle-nose pliers
The Subaru GR/GV chassis community knows the pain of stripping the factory MAF sensor screws. They look like standard Phillips, but they are actually JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard). Press down firmly when removing them to avoid camming out. Additionally, the factory turbo inlet pipe right behind the airbox is notorious for tearing if you yank the old intake out too aggressively. Wiggle the airbox, don’t pull hard!
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench on your 2008-2014 Subaru Impreza WRX WRX STI 2.5L to prevent check engine lights and allow the ECU to reset its fuel trims.
- Remove the Factory Snorkel: Use your panel popper tool to carefully pry up the two brittle plastic push-clips holding the factory ram air scoop to the radiator core support. Lift the scoop up and out.
- Unplug the MAF Sensor: Locate the Mass Air Flow sensor on top of the factory airbox. Slide the locking tab back, press the release clip, and carefully disconnect the wiring harness. Tuck the wire aside safely.
- Loosen the Hose Clamp: Grab your 10mm socket or flathead screwdriver and loosen the clamp connecting the factory accordion hose to the turbo inlet tube.
- Unbolt and Extract the Airbox: Remove the two 10mm bolts securing the lower airbox housing to the chassis. Gently rock the entire airbox assembly to unseat it from the bottom rubber mounting grommets and slide it out of the engine bay.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Subaru Impreza WRX/Sti (2008-2014) 2.5L Turbo Engine - Black
- Transfer the MAF Sensor: Use your #2 Phillips screwdriver to carefully remove the sensor from the OEM housing. DO NOT touch the fragile wire element inside or hit it with brake cleaner. Seat the MAF sensor into your new aftermarket intake tube and secure it using the supplied hardware. Hand-tighten only to avoid cracking the plastic flange!
- Install the Heat Shield: Drop the supplied heat shield or airbox enclosure into the factory mounting location. Secure it to the chassis using the provided bolts and your 10mm socket.
- Mount the Intake Tube: Slide the provided silicone coupler over the factory turbo inlet. Insert the new black intake tube into the coupler. Tighten the provided T-bolt or worm gear clamps down snugly using your 5/16" nut driver.
- Install the Air Filter: Slip the new cone filter onto the end of the intake pipe and lock it down with the remaining hose clamp. Ensure the filter isn’t rubbing against the inner fender liner to prevent future chafing holes.
- Reconnect and Calibrate: Reconnect the MAF sensor harness until you hear a click, then reconnect the negative battery terminal with your 10mm wrench. On the very first startup, do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let the EJ25 engine idle completely undisturbed so the ECU can safely learn the new airflow dynamics.
