  • T20 Torx Driver (For factory MAF sensor removal)
  • Panel Popper or Flathead Screwdriver (For wiring harness clips)
  • Allen Wrench Set (For supplied aftermarket MAF hardware)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The LUJ/LUV engines in the 2011-2015 Chevrolet Cruze 1.4L suffer from extreme under-hood heat soak. Because of this, the factory corrugated plastic PCV breather hose connected to the intake tube becomes insanely brittle. When you go to unclip it, take your time and push the release tab gently. Do not twist or torque the line, or it will snap, leaving you stranded for a trip to the parts store. Secondly, your Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is highly sensitive. Handle it by the plastic housing only—touching the amber wire element will permanently foul it and throw a P0171 Lean Code.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench or 10mm socket to prevent check engine lights and allow the ECU to reset.
  2. Unplug the MAF Sensor: Locate the Mass Air Flow sensor on the factory airbox of your 2011-2015 Chevrolet Cruze 1.4L. Slide the red locking tab backward, press the release clip, and gently pull the harness off.
  3. Disconnect the PCV Breather Hose: Carefully depress the retaining clip on the plastic PCV line routed into the factory intake tube. Pull straight backward toward the firewall. Remember the gotcha above: these are fragile.
  4. Loosen the Factory Hose Clamps: Grab your 8mm nut driver and loosen the clamps securing the factory intake tube at the turbo inlet and the airbox. Pull the rubber tube off the turbo.
  5. Remove the Factory Airbox: Use a panel popper to detach the wiring harness clipped to the side of the airbox. Next, grab the entire airbox assembly and pull firmly straight up to pop it off the factory lower rubber mounting grommets. Pull it completely out of the engine bay.
  6. Extract the MAF Sensor: Place the factory airbox on a workbench. Use a T20 Torx driver to carefully remove the two factory screws holding the MAF sensor. Pull the sensor straight out, keeping it clean and safe for the transfer.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Chevrolet Cruze (2011-2015) 1.4L DOHC Turbo Engine - Black

  1. Transfer the MAF Sensor: Carefully insert your factory MAF sensor into the new Cold Air Intake tube. Secure it using the provided hardware and an Allen wrench. Ensure the rubber O-ring is fully seated inside the machined housing to prevent vacuum leaks.
  2. Install the Heat Shield: Drop the new heat shield/airbox housing into the engine bay, pushing the mounting pegs down into the factory rubber grommets. If provided, secure the upper mounting brackets to the factory fender bolt locations using your 10mm socket.
  3. Mount the Silicone Couplers: Slide the provided silicone coupler over the turbo inlet. Slip the hose clamps on, and snug them loosely using your 8mm nut driver. Don’t fully tighten them yet so you have room to adjust.
  4. Route the New Intake Tube: Guide the new intake pipe into the turbo coupler and through the heat shield. Push the factory PCV breather hose onto the new aluminum nipple on the intake tube until it clicks securely into place.
  5. Final Tighten and Plug-In: Ensure the intake tube is aligned properly and isn’t rubbing against the brake master cylinder or hoses. Fully tighten all hose clamps with your 8mm nut driver. Plug the MAF sensor harness back into the sensor and engage the red locking clip. Reconnect your negative battery terminal with your 10mm socket.
  6. The ECU Relearn Procedure: Start the engine. On the first startup, the vehicle gas pedal should not be touched for a 20 seconds until the ECU adjusts to the increased airflow volume. Let it idle, check for any hissing sounds (vacuum leaks), and enjoy the newly unlocked turbo spool sounds.
