DIY Guide: Performance Air Intake for Honda Fit Jazz (2009-2012) 1.5L Engine for 2009-2012 Honda Fit Jazz 1.5L

Wrench Time: 45-60 MinutesDifficulty: 3/10

Required Tools

  • 10mm Socket, Ratchet, and 6-inch Extension
  • 8mm Nut Driver or Flathead Screwdriver (for hose clamps)
  • Phillips #2 Screwdriver (for MAF sensor screws)
  • Needle-Nose Pliers (for factory spring clamps)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The Gotcha):
The L15A7 throttle body sits tightly below the windshield cowl. Ensure the red silicone elbow is seated completely flush against the throttle body lip before tightening the clamp to prevent vacuum leaks and lean fault codes. Handle the Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor exclusively by its plastic housing.

Phase 1: Factory Component Removal

  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench. Unplug the MAF sensor electrical harness and unclip the wire loom from the factory airbox.
  2. Use needle-nose pliers to slide back the spring clamp on the breather hose, then loosen the factory throttle body clamp using an 8mm nut driver or Phillips screwdriver.
  3. Remove the 10mm mounting bolts securing the factory airbox assembly to the chassis and lift the entire OEM airbox and intake tube out of the engine bay.
  4. Unscrew the two Phillips #2 screws holding the MAF sensor into the factory lid and carefully extract the sensor.
Transferring the factory MAF sensor into the polished aluminum intake pipe.

Phase 2: Aftermarket Installation

  1. Insert the factory MAF sensor into the machined port on the polished aluminum intake pipe and secure it using the provided screws.
  2. Slide the red silicone elbow coupler onto the throttle body, insert the polished aluminum pipe into the coupler, and loosely attach the aluminum mounting bracket to the factory mounting point before tightening the hose clamps with an 8mm nut driver.
  3. Install the small red breather filter onto the valve cover breather port (or metal breather tube) and secure its mini clamp.
  4. Clamp the large red cone air filter onto the end of the polished aluminum pipe, reconnect the MAF sensor harness, and reconnect the negative battery terminal.

Pretty solid quality for the price. The stabilizing bracket they send definitely needs some bending and finagling to work, and the picture on the instructions isn't helpful. Expect a "running lean" CEL. Also I'd recommend not using the breather tube filter they send, not because it's bad, but because removing the PCV aspect of the intake will not only fail you on emissions in all states, but it's also bad for your engine bay and your oil life. I went ahead and drilled a hole in the steel part of the intake with a step bit (remember to sand the raw edges a bit and inside to remove metal shavings), where the elbow meets the steel, BEHIND the MAF sensor. Then I threw a 7/8s grommet from a Harbor freight multi pack in the hole, grabbed a foot of 3/8s (9.5mm) duralast tubing/rubber fuel line from AutoZone for 4 bucks and it fit snug over the breather port with some wiggling. For ease though first get one end shoved into the grommet hole, it'll be tight, use needle nose pliers to squish the end of the hose flat and work it through enough for the hose to be seen inside the steel tube and creating a good seal. Reinstall the intake pipe with your new port and hose attached. Now cut the other end of the line to the desired length to feed onto the breather port above, and use the supplies breather filter hose clamp to clamp it down. It even appeared to clear my "running lean" CEL once I did this but we'll see with more driving of it pops back up. But now you have yourself a PCV port pushing all those blowby gasses right where they should be, cleaner engine bay and oil, and you should be able to pass inspection in the more relaxed states.

Its pretty good for the price. Youll want to add a fitting to run the PCV breather thing so you dont get an engine light. It makes a good sound and the throttle response is noticably better. The only things i dont like is that there isn't a bung welded on for a hose for the PCV thing and also the fact that it bends forward in the engine bay means that its not getting fresh air from the tube thing thats attached under the hood to funnel colder air into the stock intake. The HPS short ram intake is a better design but its way more expensive. This is just fine.

For $104 this is definitely cheaper than the HPS alternative which i didn't wanna pay for. They should add a bung for the PCV breather because putting the included filter on there seems a little silly and i think will cause an engine light. I just drilled in with a step bit behind the MAF and used a pcv valve and grommet kit thing from Amazon, i just pulled the valve out of it so that its just a tube and not a valve. It sounds cool tho and the throttle response is noticably improved.

Overall Review

After having the product installed for a few days now, i can so far say that it was a product worth purchasing. For spending 100$ it was the quality i expected, not the greatest, but definitely something worth investing in. So far no issues and im loving it.
