High Output Alternator for Dodge Durango Ram 1500 2500 3500 (2007-2008) 5.7L

High-Amperage 300-Amp Alternator for 2007-2008 Dodge Durango, Ram 1500, Ram 2500, Ram 3500 (DR/DH/HB)

What it Does: The High Output Alternator replaces the factory charging unit on 2007-2008 Dodge Durango and Ram trucks to supply a continuous 300 amps of current, preventing electrical starvation and idle voltage sag under severe accessory loads.

The Stock Dodge Durango, Ram 1500, Ram 2500, Ram 3500 Charging Limitations

The original factory 136-amp or 160-amp charging systems on DR/DH and HB platforms were never engineered to sustain heavy electrical draws. Adding winches, plow pumps, heavy-duty inverters, or aftermarket audio amplifiers quickly exceeds the stock alternator's output threshold, causing voltage to drop well below 12.6V at engine idle. This continuous electrical overdraw induces severe diode pack heat soak, leads to stator phase breakdown, rapidly cooks the battery, and triggers dimming headlights, slow starter cranking, and battery warning lights.

The Engineering Solution

This 300-amp unit provides the necessary current reserve by using tightly packed, heavy-gauge pure copper stator windings that lower internal resistance and maximize electromagnetic induction. A dynamically balanced rotor prevents high-RPM harmonic runout, protecting high-tolerance sealed bearings from premature failure. Matched with an integrated heavy-duty internal voltage regulator, this unit maintains a rock-solid 13.5V to 14.5V charging profile across the entire rev range. It retains OEM housing geometry, original pulley dimensions, and factory harness pinouts for a complete drop-in installation without custom bracket fabrication.

Frequently Asked Questions & Fitment Warnings

Does this fit the DR/DH and HB Durango, Ram 1500, Ram 2500, Ram 3500?

Yes, this is a direct fit for 2007-2008 models equipped with the 5.7L Hemi V8 engine. It does not fit 3.7L V6, 4.7L V8, or 5.9L/6.7L Cummins Diesel platforms.

Do I need to upgrade my battery cables when installing this 300A unit?

While the unit plugs into the factory harness, performing a "Big 3" cable upgrade (charging lead, chassis ground, and engine block ground) using 1/0 or 4-gauge wire is strongly recommended to safely deliver full 300-amp capacity without line resistance.

The Dodge Truck Standard

Commercial-duty towing and rigorous worksite demands expose electrical vulnerabilities fast. Upgrading to a dedicated 300-amp power supply ensures your heavy-duty Ram or Durango operates with uncompromised electrical stability under peak operational loads.
